Samuel Hill was an eccentric millionaire active around the turn of the 20th century. Learning about him a bit it's easy to see that he was a visionary for his time. He fell in love with the Columbia Gorge and established several projects including a WWI monument modeled after Stonehenge and a museum (that was originally to be his "Ranch House"). It's odd to see all of this in the middle of nowhere.
